Manasija Monastery is the endowment of Despot Stefan Lazarević, built between 1406 and 1418 in the Pomoravlje hills. Surrounded by eleven towers and deep defensive trenches, it is one of the most complete fortress-monasteries in Serbia and a defining example of Morava-style sacred architecture. Inside the fortified walls, the Church of the Holy Trinity contains exceptional 15th-century frescoes — vivid warrior-saint portraits and a celebrated image of Despot Stefan presenting a model of the monastery to the Holy Trinity. The monastery's scriptorium, known for the Resava orthography, was one of the most influential literary centres of the medieval Serbian state.
Note: Manasija is an active Orthodox monastery. Modest dress is required — knees and shoulders must be covered for both men and women.
Resava Cave (Resavska Pećina) is one of the oldest and most spectacular cave systems in Serbia, with an estimated geological age of 80 million years. The oldest ornaments found inside date back approximately 45 million years. The cave spans three levels of passages and halls connected by artificial tunnels. Visitors follow an 800-metre illuminated path through chambers filled with stalactites, stalagmites, columns, coral-like calcite deposits and flowstone waterfalls in extraordinary formations. The cave tour is conducted by local guides and lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Important: The temperature inside Resava Cave is a constant 7°C (45°F) year-round — bring a light jacket regardless of outdoor temperature. Entrance tickets are paid in cash on-site in Serbian Dinars (RSD).
A short drive from Resava Cave leads to Veliki Buk — also known as Lisine — a 20 to 25-metre karst waterfall on the slopes of Beljanica Mountain, protected as a natural monument of Serbia. The surrounding forest provides a calm, shaded setting ideal for a mid-day break. Restaurants near the waterfall serve traditional Serbian cuisine and freshwater trout from local streams — plan approximately 60–90 minutes here for lunch and the waterfall visit. The waterfall is most dramatic in spring and autumn, but remains scenic and worth visiting year-round.
The final stop is Krupajsko Vrelo — and for many visitors, it becomes the most memorable moment of the day. This karst spring produces turquoise-blue water of extraordinary clarity, rising from a natural pool at the base of a dramatic limestone cliff face before flowing through a canyon carved over millennia. The surrounding landscape — vivid blue-green water against white limestone and dense green hillside — is among the most photogenic natural settings in central Serbia. During warmer months the pool is large enough to swim in. Krupaj Spring is deliberately included in this private itinerary because it is absent from most standard group tours in the area.
